ROSETTA ARTS PRESENTS
CUSTOM HOUSE, OUR HOUSE
Photography by Inés Yearwood-Sanchez and Chris Dorley-Brown

Rosetta Arts is proud to present new work by photographers Inés Yearwood-Sanchez and Chris Dorley-Brown, commissioned for Custom House, Our House—a community oral history and photography project exploring community-led regeneration in Custom House, East London.

Funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund (2024–25), the project involves residents, shopkeepers, and stakeholders. Artists and designers from the Royal College of Art trained individuals in oral history interview techniques to record stories from within the community.

On View at Rosetta Arts
This exhibition showcases photographs created during the photographers’ time in Custom House. Inés Yearwood-Sanchez presents photographic portraits of oral history interviewees. Chris Dorley-Brown has captured the street life and architectural identity of Custom House.

Portraits
Inés Yearwood-Sanchez is a Newham-based young photographer whose practice explores the intersections of culture and identity—particularly the complexities of heritage and the lived experiences of underrepresented communities. Her portraits highlight the strength and resilience of Custom House residents, while portraying each person as more than their connection to regeneration. Yearwood-Sanchez invited interviewees to choose how and where they were represented—including location, clothing, and meaningful objects—ensuring each image reflects their agency and pride.

Streetscapes
Chris Dorley-Brown is a British photographer and filmmaker who has documented East London for over three decades. Commissioned to photograph Custom House ahead of forthcoming changes, he has created two complementary series. Some images capture Custom House at dusk, focusing on buildings and infrastructure in twilight—a symbolic gesture reflecting the area’s transition through redevelopment. Others use multiple exposures to depict street life, combining moments in time to present a layered sense of place. Together, these works document what may be lost—physically and socially—amid transformation.
